ICC in collaboration with TiE SV presents Devesh Kapur, the author of The Other One Percent: Indians in America (Co-authored with Sanjoy Chakravorty and Nirvikar Singh).


Devesh’s presentation will examine how a population from one of the poorest countries half-way around the world, with distinctive linguistic and religious characteristics and low levels of human capital, has emerged as the most-educated and highest-income group in the U.S. in little more than a single generation.

Devesh Kapur is the Madan Lal Sobti Professor for the Study of Contemporary India and Director, Center for Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the coauthor of The World Bank: Its First Half Century;Give us your Best and Brightest: The Global Hunt for Talent and Its Impact on the Developing World; Public Institutions in India: Performance and Design andDiaspora, Democracy and Development: The Impact of International Migration from India on India (Princeton, 2010) which received the 2012 Distinguished Book Award of the International Studies Association.
