Seniors Shine at ICC Father’s Day Bash!

Over 200 people celebrated their families and culture at the ICC on June 18th. The party was multigenerational, with children, teens, adults, and seniors all enjoying the variety of performances, awards, and food. Special recognition was given to fathers over the age of 80, and each one took a turn at the microphone to say a few words about his life. Additionally, each was given a bottle of wine and a few special gifts.

Kids from the ICC’s Summer Camp came and presented a special dance performance, and a group of college kids joined in with a performance of their own. The seniors were treated to a mother and daughter comedy duo who kept them laughing, and the seniors’ own Jollywood dance group gave a special show planned especially for the celebration.

The ICC Seniors Program offers comprehensive social, cultural, and wellness groups in 3 locations, and strives to create a second family for older adults in the community. Programs like the Father’s Day celebration are offered regularly as well as weekly discussion groups, monthly cultural festivals, and daily yoga.

Speaking of the Father’s Day celebration, Gopi Godhwani, the Senior Programs Director, said that the seniors who attended “find a family here...They might be lonely at home, or may have lost family or partners...but here, they find a second family.” To find out more about Senior Programs, please visit www.indiacc.org/seniors
