Debate tournament for 5th-10th grade students only.

Date : Sunday February 9th, 2014

Time : 1pm-4pm

Venue: India Community Center, 525 Los Coches Street, Milpitas - CA - 95035

Eligibility : Students in 5th - 10th grade

Fees: $35

Early bird discount: $5 ends January 31st

Registrations will close Jan 31st to assign topics to all participants.

 

Debate Tournament Topics
Stay home moms' children perform better than their working counterparts.(For/Against)

Longer school days will help US students.(For/Against)

Debate Format and Rules

  • Each participant will prepare debate on the two topics.
  • They will be notified one week in advance if they have to prepare “For” or “Against” the topic.
  • Each participant will debate on each of the topics once.
  • Student will have 2 debates to compete (one time for each topic).
  • Speeches will be presented in front of the judges and their parents only
  • Participants cannot hear other students’ speeches.
  • Opponents will be of the similar age group.
  • Judges will announce the winner immediately
  • Big trophies will be for the participants who win both debates.
  • Small trophies will be awarded to the participants who win 1 debate.
  • Ribbons will be awarded for the participants who lose both debates.

Debate Speeches Format

  • Constructive (Proposition) up to 3 minutes
  • Constructive (Opposition) 3 minutes maximum
  • 1 minute break (if required by the participant)
  • Rebuttal (Proposition) up to 2 minutes maximum
  • 1 minute break (if required by the participant)
  • Rebuttal (opposition) 2 minutes maximum
  • Closing (Proposition) 1 minute maximum
  • Closing (Opposition) 1 minute maximum

DEBT RANKING stands for Debate Tournament ranking.

Participate in maximum debate tournaments to increase your ranking!

Each participant will get 100 points for participating in a tournament.
The score will go up or down based on the results and the opponents ranking.

See which club you belong to -
Lincoln Club (Point 100 – 300)
Kennedy Club (301 – 600)
Mandela Club (601 – 1000)
Elite Debater (1001+)
