The theme for 2016 is "Festivals of India"
From Basant to Diwali and beyond, India is a country of festivals. This year’s Art Contest theme encourages children to explore the rich tapestry of religious and regional festivals celebrated though-out India. Children ages 4 to 12 years create an original work of art illustrating the stories behind the celebration, the customs, regional variations, or their own family traditions around their favorite festival of India.
ICC provides a sheet of 11" x 14" drawing paper. Children provide their art materials and imaginations. Sorry, no mobile phones or reference images. Art materials are limited to pencils, markers, crayons, color pencils, watercolors, and oil pastels only.
Check-in for the contest will open at 1:30pm.
Children will begin work at 2:00pm and can work until 4:00pm.
Age categories: 4 to 6, 7 to 9, and 10 to 12. Age as of January 1st, 2016.
Participation Fee: $15.00
First, Second, and Third place awards for each of the three age categories will be presented at ICC's Youthsava Dance Competition on Saturday April 9th. Winners will be notified via email on March 21st. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation and have their work displayed at the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose from September 26th through November 28th in association with CDM's Diwali Celebration.
For the safety of our youth participants, India Community Center has put the following precautions in place.
• A parent or custodian must sign the child in and out of the event and provide their mobile phone number.
• A parent or custodian must remain on site while their young artist is working.
• While the children are working, they will be under the supervision of adults who have been fingerprinted and cleared Department of Justice background checks.
• ICC volunteers will escort children to and from the restroom.
• Only ICC staff and volunteers are allowed in the ballroom while the young artists are working.
